Dredd (2012)

Before we watched the movie, I heard a rumor that this script was written back in the '80's but was put aside because they weren't able to make it properly or something. Instead, they took that movie script, changed it around, and that became Robocop. The truth is they are not related. The only thing connecting Dredd (2012), Judge Dredd (1995), and Robocop (1987) is that they were all based on the same comic book. I have never seen Judge Dredd, but I have heard it is pretty bad. I like Stallone, so I may need to see it anyway, to form my own opinion. Robocop, however, is a good '80's action film, which fills the movie with explosions and one liners, rather than focusing on lame buddy cop dialogue or a sappy love story. Dredd is the same way, in that it plays like an '80's action film, but with modern special effects and violence. Lots of violence. The story doesn't really matter, but you don't care, as you are compelled to watch for all the action. The Dredd character is very similar to the Robocop character, but that just seems to add to the appeal. He talks and sometimes acts like Batman too, which makes it easy to compare this movie to the new Batman movies. Batman is not willing to kill anyone, though, and Dredd is more than willing. Overall, Dredd is a fun movie to watch. If you want a good '80's action experience, with a modern twist, give it a shot!

  1. Urban obviously loves this character and does a nice job at portraying Dredd as nothing more than one sadistic, SOB. Good review Isaac.
